If you're just starting to read Lynn Hagen with this story, I suggest reading Christian's Menace (Christian's Coven 1) as well as His Little Vampire (Brac Pack Next Gen 10). Those will give you the basics and background on Minzhe. So Minzhe is a vampire, the son of Christian, Minsheng, and Yasuko. He meets his mate Simon in the last book (#10) . He has no idea why a human is helping Decue, a wolf shifter, and is taken in for questioning. From there Minzhe learns about his mate, and another pairing begins. But of course there's a catch because this one involves money and sticky fingers.

If you're not familiar with the Brac Pack and various offshoots of Lynn Hagen's stories you'll wonder about past characters and what's happening. When everyone was stepping around Simon names were familiar but I'd forgotten family connections. . . Then of all things Christian is off and he's talking to himself about being glad he always kept that wolf around: Logan. So I had to stop and think who Logan was. I'm still wondering.

Simon comes from an abusive home. Who knows how long Simon was under his uncle's thumb - He doesn't talk about his parents or think about them. It's unclear if he is slightly off or if it's damage from constant physical and abuse. As he's presented, Simon is scared, fearful, yet has a strong connection of trust with his mate Minzhe. I don't know if his courage is due to not processing things or if he has a defeatist attitude to where things can't get any worse.

Simon is in pain from his abuse and confused. He doesn't know what mates are, shifters, vampires, or how quickly his life has changed. So when Minzhe did the talk about children I don't think Simon understood. And once that conversation was over, in less than a page, Minzhe pushed him into claiming. There was verbal consent but as Simon's was a virgin in every way, Minzhe didn't allow enough time. While it wasn't rape I did think in that direction. I guess it was those protective warrior instincts that were overwhelming him, especially with the threats going on so Minzhe just jumped in and claimed him quickly right after the children talk. No romance at all. And who knows how Simon will change once he's healed and more secure in his mating.

Million-Dollar Mate is worth the price for the cameo with Maverick and the senior citizen. I'd love to see more of her and her interactions with the Brac Pack. . . . Even a nephew or concerned social worker checking on her. . . . *hint* On a side note I did wonder a bit about why Simon's cat wasn't with him in Dalton Falls but was instead at Maverick's. .. And yes I appreciate the 'bad guys' being tormented, ripped apart, and dying. Yup. Conclusion at it's finest. - Dan's Wife

This was amazing. It was great reading about how Minzhe, (Christian's son from the Christian's Coven series) finds his mate. Poor Simon has been abused by his uncle, and eventually his uncle wanted to kill him for his inheritance. Minzhe saves him with help from Christian, his brother, and Rez, along with many others. It was an awesome read, and I'm excited to read the last book in the series. )
